No surprises — ever

Written Quote Before Treatment — Every Time

Before any treatment begins at Paynless Dental, you receive a written itemised quote listing every service with its ADA item number and cost. This means you know exactly what you will pay — and what your health fund will rebate — before we begin. You can take the quote home, call your health fund to verify coverage, or use it to apply for a payment plan. Nothing proceeds without your approval.

Your written quote includes:

  • Every recommended service listed separately with its ADA item code
  • Full fee for each item
  • Estimated health fund rebate (via HICAPS estimate) where applicable
  • Your estimated out-of-pocket gap
  • Total treatment cost before any discount or plan

How to use your quote:

  • Call your health fund to verify your rebate for each ADA item number
  • Use it to apply for a Denticare, Humm or TLC payment plan (required by providers)
  • Submit to your workers compensation insurer for pre-approval if applicable
  • Provide to the ATO if applying for superannuation on compassionate grounds
  • Keep for your records — itemised receipts provided after each appointment

Private health fund

All Health Funds Accepted — HICAPS On-the-Spot

Paynless Dental accepts all major Australian private health funds. We process your rebate claim on-the-spot via HICAPS — you pay only the gap amount at the time of your appointment. Bring your health fund card.

How HICAPS works — step by step

  1. Your dentist completes treatment and generates an itemised invoice
  2. Your health fund card is tapped or swiped on the HICAPS terminal
  3. The system contacts your health fund in real time and calculates your rebate
  4. Your rebate is deducted from the total immediately — you pay only the gap
  5. Your health fund records the claim automatically — no paperwork from you

What health fund extras cover

General dental (most extras policies): check-ups, X-rays, scale and clean, fillings, simple extractions — rebates typically 60–80% of ADA schedule fee.

Major dental (medium/high extras): crowns, root canal therapy, dentures, mouthguards — rebates typically 50–70% but subject to annual limits.

Orthodontics (most comprehensive extras): braces, aligners — lifetime limit typically $1,500–$3,000 depending on your policy.

Important health fund notes

  • Your rebate depends on your fund and level of cover — two people in the same fund can have different rebates
  • Annual limits reset each calendar year — check before your appointment if you’re close to the limit
  • Most funds have waiting periods for major dental (typically 2–12 months from joining)
  • No Gap conditions require your fund to have a No Gap arrangement with Paynless Dental — ask at reception
  • Forgotten your card? You must pay in full on the day and claim directly with your fund — No Gap does not apply

Payment plans

Spread the Cost — Five Payment Plan Options

Payment plans let you start treatment now and pay over time — interest-free with most providers. Paynless Dental accepts five payment plan providers to match different treatment amounts and budgets.

If your child needs treatment and is eligible aged 2–17CDBS bulk billing · free at Paynless Dental · no payment plan needed

Can I combine a payment plan with my health fund?

Yes — and this is often the best approach for larger treatments. Your health fund rebate is processed via HICAPS first, reducing the total amount. The remaining out-of-pocket gap can then be financed through a payment plan provider. For example: a $4,000 crown procedure with a $1,200 health fund rebate leaves $2,800 — which could be spread over 12 months with Humm. Discuss the combination at reception before your treatment begins.

Important: Payment plan terms, limits, fees and eligibility criteria are set by the respective providers and are subject to change. Paynless Dental is not a financial adviser. The Australian Dental Association recommends a child’s first dental visit by age 2, or earlier if parents have concerns. CDBS is available from age 2. NSW public dental scheme

OHFFSS Vouchers — NSW Oral Health Fee For Service Scheme

Paynless Dental accepts NSW Oral Health Fee For Service Scheme (OHFFSS) vouchers. Treatment listed on your voucher is provided at no cost to you for authorised services. We do not issue OHFFSS vouchers — they are issued by NSW public dental clinics after a triage assessment.

📄 How OHFFSS Works

  • Call the NSW oral health contact centre: 1800 679 336
  • You are triaged by a public dental clinician who assesses your needs
  • If eligible, a voucher is issued authorising specific dental treatment at a participating private provider
  • You present your OHFFSS voucher at Paynless Dental at your appointment
  • Treatment listed on the voucher is provided at no cost to you
  • The scheme pays Paynless Dental directly for authorised services
  • Treatment must match the voucher exactly — additional items require a separate voucher

📋 Three Types of OHFFSS Voucher

Urgent Care Voucher: Valid for 1 month · covers urgent dental treatment (pain relief, extractions, abscess drainage)

General Care Voucher: Valid for 3 months · covers general dental treatment (fillings, extractions, denture repairs)

Denture Voucher: Valid for 3 months · covers new full or partial dentures at participating providers

Paynless Dental accepts all three voucher types. To find all participating providers: ohffss.health.nsw.gov.au

Workers Compensation

Workers Compensation Dental Claims — SIRA NSW

Paynless Dental accepts workers compensation dental claims for treatment arising from a dental injury sustained in a workplace accident. If your teeth, jaw or mouth were injured at work, your dental treatment may be fully covered under your workers compensation claim.

What you need to bring

  • A valid, accepted SIRA NSW workers compensation claim number
  • Your employer’s or insurer’s contact details
  • Any pre-approval documentation from your insurer (if applicable)
  • Referral or authorisation letter from your treating GP or workers compensation case manager (if required)

How the claim works at Paynless Dental

  • Your dentist assesses your injury and prepares a written treatment plan with ADA item codes and full costings
  • We submit the treatment plan to your workers compensation insurer for pre-approval where required
  • Once pre-approved, treatment proceeds and we invoice the insurer directly
  • You pay nothing out-of-pocket for approved treatment items
  • We provide itemised invoices and clinical notes for lodgement and claims management

Important: Workers compensation dental claims require an accepted claim under the SIRA NSW workers compensation scheme. Insurer pre-approval may be required before treatment commences — Paynless Dental assists with this. Treatment not pre-approved may be your responsibility. For more information: sira.nsw.gov.au. Call (02) 8677 9094 to discuss your situation before your appointment.

Superannuation

Using Superannuation for Dental Work — ATO Compassionate Grounds

Eligible Australians may be able to access their superannuation early on compassionate grounds through the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to pay for major dental treatment. This is an ATO-administered process — Paynless Dental can provide the supporting documentation your fund requires.

What dental treatment may qualify

The ATO considers compassionate release of super for dental treatment that is necessary to:

  • Treat a life-threatening illness or injury
  • Alleviate acute or chronic pain (this can include severe dental pain)
  • Alleviate acute or chronic mental illness caused by a dental condition
  • Modifications required for severe disability

Treatment that commonly qualifies: major reconstructive dental work, dental implants for severe functional impairment, dentures after significant bone loss, treatment for severe dental infections or pain conditions. Not all dental treatment qualifies — routine check-ups and cosmetic treatment are typically excluded.

How to apply — step by step

  1. Get a written treatment plan and quote from Paynless Dental — we provide the itemised plan with ADA item codes that the ATO requires
  2. Get two supporting letters from registered medical or dental practitioners confirming the clinical necessity
  3. Apply online through the ATO’s myGov / ATO compassionate grounds portal
  4. The ATO assesses your application — typically 10–14 business days
  5. If approved, the ATO notifies your super fund, which releases the approved amount directly to you
  6. You pay Paynless Dental from the released funds at your appointment

Paynless Dental is a dental practice, not a financial adviser. Eligibility for early superannuation release is assessed by the ATO — not by Paynless Dental. Tax consequences may apply when accessing super early. Seek independent financial advice before making superannuation decisions. For full information: ato.gov.au
